Lawyers and Workplace Investigators

Amer Mushtaq, LL.B. (Osgoode), M. Engineering (Dalhousie), B.Sc. (Hons.)

Amer Mushtaq

Amer Mushtaq is a Canadian lawyer and workplace investigator with nearly two decades of experience in employment, labour, and human rights matters. He is a co-founder of Formative Law, an association of lawyers focused on workplace investigations and related training.

Amer has conducted hundreds of independent and unbiased workplace investigations for public and private sector organizations, including mandates arising in law enforcement and other regulated or high-accountability environments. He is recognized by the Canadian government as a Senior Workplace Investigator and is qualified to conduct investigations across all three streams of workplace harassment, workplace violence, and wrongdoing.

In addition to his investigative work, Amer has appeared as counsel before multiple courts and tribunals, including the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, the Superior Court of Justice, and human rights tribunals. This litigation background informs his understanding of procedural fairness, evidentiary standards, and the importance of clear, well-reasoned investigative findings.

Amer is also an experienced legal educator and speaker. He is frequently invited to deliver training and lectures on employment law, human rights, and workplace investigations to professional and institutional audiences, including lawyers, investigators, and public-sector organizations.
