Amer Mushtaq

Amer is the managing partner and a co-founder of Formative LLP. He has assisted hundreds of individual and institutional clients since 2007 in a wide range of legal matters including all aspects of employment and human rights law. Amer has successfully argued multiple cases at various courts and tribunals including Ontario Court of Appeal, Federal Court, Superior Court of Justice, Human Rights Tribunal, and Landlord and Tenant Board. Amer is frequently retained by other law firms and self-represented litigants to argue various motions, trials and appeals on their behalf. 

Amer is also recognized by the Canadian Federal Government as a Senior Workplace Investigator. He is one of the few investigators in Canada who are qualified by the Federal Government to investigate all three streams of workplace harassment, violence and wrongdoing. 

Amer is also the founder of You Counsel (http://www.youcounsel.ca), an organization dedicated to providing substantive legal education to public through online courses.

As well, since 2016, Amer has been operating a legal education channel on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/youcounsel) which provides lectures on  substantive legal topics to assist self-represented litigants and legal professionals. This channel has 2,800+ subscribers and hosts over 155 lectures. Amer’s passion for simplifying law and its processes has enabled him to assist many self-represented litigants in their legal battles.

Based on his passion for legal education, Amer is frequently sought by various organizations to provide education on a variety of legal topics. He has spoken at professional development courses and conferences at the Law Society of Ontario, Ontario Bar Association, Toronto Lawyers Association, Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers, and has taught courses at Osgoode Hall Law School and Seneca College. Amer is also a former member of the executive committee of Ontario Bar Association’s Labour and Employment Law section.
